The People's Choice was a, now largely forgotten, sitcom which ran for three seasons between 1955 and 1958 and stared Jackie Cooper and Patricia Breslin.

I haven't seen this on here before so apologies if it has already been mentioned, but one 1957 episode "Reluctant Houseguest" ended with a quite funny scene involving two spankings: Jackie Cooper spanked Patricia Breslin with a newspaper and then Margaret Irving spanked Dick Wesson with her hand and a ping pong paddle.

The scene is at the end of this video:

The basic storyline of the episode is that newlyweds Sock and Mandy Miller (Cooper and Breslin) are living with Mandy's father, Mayor John Peoples, and his wife, Sock's Aunt Gus. Sock wants to move to their own house and, though Mandy thinks it makes sense to stay, she agrees and her father is also pleased to see them going out on their own.

However, the Millers' layabout friend, Rollo (Wesson), also lives with them and is concerned of losing his free board so starts trying to trick the Mayor and the Millers into keeping things as they are.

After multiple failed attempts to convince the Mayor to throw them out, Sock tells Mandy that she'll have to try and make him angry with her but Mandy argues that this couldn't work as her father thinks she's "adorable." When Sock pushes her, she explains that when she pulled a silly prank as a little girl he just laughed and, when his law partner decided to spank her, he threw him from the office and said that any man who would hit a woman is a "scoundrel."

This gives Sock an idea and he suggests that they stage a fight and that he act like he's real mad at her, haul her across his knee and spank her to make her father angry and throw them out. Mandy seems reluctant but, when Sock promises to pull his slaps and only use a newspaper, she agrees.

They stage a spat and, just as Mayor People's walks in, Sock exclaims "I'll show you what I do to a nagging wife!", pulls her across his knee on the couch and starts smacking her with a newspaper.

Clearly, it's a fairly ineffective implement and Mandy is obviously not in much discomfort but it is funny and it makes Mayor Peoples angry. He tells Sock off but in doing so, mentions that Mandy begged Gus to let them stay. This is news to Sock, and a worried Mandy pleads "Darling, listen..." as he says "Oh, I didn't know that, darling!"

He smacks her again, still with the paper, but her screech and outraged look suggest that he's not quite 'pulling his slaps' anymore. However, after only three or four more swats it is eventually revealed that Rollo has been manipulating everyone and he is dealt a much harder spanking by Gus while the others look on laughing.

In the final scene, Sock apologies to Mandy for spanking her, and Rollo is shown sleeping with a pillow at both ends.
